One Bratty Omega (Building the Pack)

One Bratty Omega - Stephani Hecht First thing I have to say is that I hate when books refer to a man as a brat, especially because he's young and strong-willed. Donny is not a brat. He has some responsibility issues but he's also a sweet guy who desperately wants to be accepted.

I have some nitpicks: Donny was described as tall at one point and short in another. They referred to a six year age gap between fully legal adults (>21) as a big age gap. even I don't think that's a significant and I'm stricter than most. Donny is at one point told that (medium spoiler) he would always walk with a limp but it's never mentioned again. When Donny calls his cousin to let him know he'd be out all night, Proctor is horrified Donny has to ask permission. He didn't ask permission, he let people who care for him and who would notice (they live in a compound) know that he'd not be home. That's common courtesy. At two different points Donny realizes that (major spoiler) Procter has been changed. Twice. You only discover something once. It's mentioned that someone bit by a bad wolf becomes a bad wolf. That's just silly. If a good wolf only produces good wolves, where would bad wolves come from? They mention that someone can go crazy and become bad. So how is that contagious? Doesn't make any sense to me.

Proctor (major spoiler) takes being turned into a werewolf VERY easily, completely unbelievable.

I don't like that itt is implied that the mates aren't capable of hunting and that they're female. There is one beta female (apparently all wolves who run with the pack are betas) but that's it. Donny is humiliated to be lumped with the mates.

At one point Procter is accused of (major spoiling) betraying Donny. He didn't, he was just (major spoiling) reacting to having been turned into a wolf and frankly, he took it too easily. He didn't get that Donny was trying to save him--Donny was also spoiling for a fight. It was a complete overreaction on everyone else's point.

So, it was a good shifter story, 3.5 stars, but all these nitpicks added up and I'm rounding down.
