This was an odd one, an old school take on shifters. Being a werewolf is a negative, horrible thing, and the wolf is mindless while in that form.
I thought it was weird that the characters are together a year before they move in together and they do so before when they don't love each other yet. I can't imagine moving in with someone I'm not sure I'm in love with unless it's an emergency kind of thing where there are no other options. I can't imagine being with someone for a year and not being in love. A that point I'd have moved on. Even worse, once they do move in, they don't share a bedroom, even after eighteen months. It's as though they're roommates who are still just feeling out who the other is. It's really bizarre.
There were parts I really liked, such as how things progress in the second half, and what Luke is like when he's in his shifted form. I didn't like how long he is shifted and mindless--seven days--which feels unnecessarily excessive. How can you keep that from someone you're living with? Even his excuse, going hunting every month, won't explain being gone a a fourth of the time from work and life.
I don't know if I would read a sequel. The cover title is Saint's Curse, but the title page as the subtitle of "Luke," implying that it's the first of a series. I think it's better standalone.
2.5 rounded up because it's different than standard M/M shifter fare.
