Gregory's Rebellion (Shifters' Haven)

Gregory's Rebellion - Lavinia Lewis Why did end up suffering with two racist books in one day by authors I really like? Okay, I'm being harsh here because I don't think the racism was intentional, but it's bugged me with her for a while. Perhaps because she's British (and you see British spellings and words throughout her books which take place in Texas) she doesn't realize what names mean, but it's hard to believe.

Basically, all of the good characters are white with white bread names like Hayden, Kelan, Seth, Jared, Nate, etc. But the two new baddies are named Ramon Lopez and Mario, the only ethnic names in the book. And this isn't the first time I've noticed it; it's a pattern I've seen in previous books in the series. Add in that a Latino name and an Italian crime family name and you have culturally stereotyped bad guys.

I liked the story and the characters. I love internally wounded and scarred characters, and one that is both of those on the inside as well as on the outside I adore. Gregory was Mr. Perfect and I adored him, although he didn't quite fit with the Gregory we first met. He's a lot less reserved and just, different. Hayden is so much like Cary it's almost like the same story with a different scenario but I love that kind of thing so I ate it up.

Nitpicks:
Libraries carry ebooks.
A dirt poor person doesn't go home to "his condo."
You can't punch a person in the stomach when he's barely crawling and you're above him.

Three and a half stars rounded down because of the whole race/culture/stereotyping issue.
