
I think this story would have benefited from a bit more detail, particularly more discussing of what was going on in the boys' heads than the vampires. The only way Lacey's reactions made any sense was if he were under the vampire's thrall. I even questioned his first reactions that were allegedly his own. Lacey felt like a very young man, like almost an adolescent. When contrasted with the ancient and evil-behaving vampire, it felt like pedophilia almost. I think the writing was fine, as was the story idea, I just think there were a lot of problems in the details and execution.
