Iris Schreier's Reversible Knits: Creative Techniques for Knitting Both Sides Right

Iris Schreier's Reversible Knits: Creative Techniques for Knitting Both Sides Right - Iris Schreier I should start off by saying I don't really even get why anyone would do one of the two techniques described in this book. One technique, making a fabric that just looks good on both sides by how you stitch, that makes sense and is why I picked up the book. The other, double-stitching where you have a double-set of stitches on a needle and work both sides at once, just sounds like a lot more work and challeng then simply knitting two sides and sewing them together. But it could just be that the diagrams and explanation aren't sufficient: maybe there is some big advantage to doing it this way. If so, I have no idea what it is. The explanation for how to do the technique was insufficient for me to figure it out and I am an intermediat knitter. So I recommend this only for advanced knitters who just want to learn a new technique. (The first method is too obvious for an advanced knitter.)

But on to the projects. Bleah. I initially liked the idea of the book because often scarves have a one-sided pattern but both sides show. And the author had the same idea because the vast majority of the projects are scarves and wraps. But most of them are both ugly AND boring. That's really an accomplishment. The two projects I found intriguing involved cables that showed on both sides. That's pretty cool. But the instructions were so bad, I have no idea how to make them, which defeats the purpose of the book. So, I really don't recommend this book to anyone.
