Typical Lanyon: professor, police officer who gets upset with him, thriller light, mystery, love, etc. A couple of things that were a little different that I loved was that the professor wasn't trying to figure it out on his own, he just was trying to help the kid. When he got information he gave it to the cops (except when trying to get the kid to turn himself in. There was a lot of pain and strife and I may have cried a time or two. Lanyon dealt with the addiction really well. All in all a good read.
